Sein (246 Senans - Surface area 58 ha - 1.8 km long and  50 to 500 m. wide - culminating point 6 m above the sea - mean elevation 1.5 m)

"Qui voit Sein voit sa fin" ("He who sees Sein sees his own end") used to say the seamen who feared those terrifying reefs and violent currents, reason of many shipwrecks. The island is so flat that the sea has, now and then, flooded it ! The unique village was built to resist to this harsh environment : houses safely huddled and narrow lanes fighting against the blustering winds. The islanders, famous fishermen and keen seamen, have distinguished themselves by many rescues at sea, saving lives and boats. These acts of heroism won them a financial gift : tax exemption.

Nature

Like the islands of  OUESSANT and MOLENE, the island of SEIN is part of the regional nature Park of Armorique. There are no trees here. Remains of stone walls outlining and shielding tiny plots of grounds still exist. They used to be cultivated but lie now fallow.
Nevertheless, this island has survived thanks to the sea surrounding it. Evidence of the richness of this sea, dolphins escort occasionally the mail to the harbour.
